Charles has won several renowned awards throughout his career including Best Dancer of the Festidança Festival (2004) and the Joinville Dance Festival (2002). He was also the winner of the “Tap in Rio Challenge” in 2007 and of a Brazilian network TV Globo Challenge Show in 2009. As a choreographer, Charles has gained recognition at many Brazilian dance festivals like the Joinville Dance Festival, Passo de Arte Dance Competition, Festidanca Festival, and Litoral em Danca Festival. He was awarded for best choreography on the hit Brazilian TV show Domingão do Faustão in 2010 as well as at the 2013 Festidança Festival. In 2012 Charles was also nominated for Best Choreographer at the Prêmio Desterro Festival.

Renato has choreographed for the Águia de Ouro Samba school, where he was responsible for the carnival float titled “The Biggest Festivals,” which hosted some of the most distinguished performers in Brazilian music such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Rita Lee, Cauby Peixoto, and Angela Maria. In 2013, he was also invited to choreograph the hit TV show Chiquititas.

Charles has been invited to choreograph for many Brazilian and International companies over the years. In 2013 he was invited to represent Brazil in Chicago at the Rhythm World, directed by Lane Alexander, and was asked to choreograph a piece for the Chicago Human Rhythm Project Festival featuring students from all over the world. Charles’ ever-ascending career has also led him to teach in Los Angeles at the L.A Tap Fest (2011), directed by the EMMY award winner Jason Samuels Smith, and in Washington, DC at the DC Tap Festival (2013), directed by the Syncopated Ladies Chloe and Maud Arnold. He is currently centered in New York City, where he teaches at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway; he is also the Artistic Director of the Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble in Washington, D.C.

Charles Renato has only just begun. Currently focusing on his international career, he has recently settled in the city that never sleeps and will continue to learn from the best as he taps his way up the ladder of success. He is rapidly making a name for himself outside of Brazil and you can be sure to see more of him as he proves to the world that he belongs alongside the tap-dancing greats.
